Terms of Employment:
10 months/187 days per year. The starting salary for teachers for the 2016-2017 year is $51,500.00.
Primary Purpose:
To provide students with high quality, appropriate and engaging learning activities and experiences designed to help the students attain their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills that will prepare them for success in higher education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
- Valid Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned from any State Educator’s Certification Department and to have the ability to be certified in Texas, or;
- Actively enrolled in an Alternative Teacher Certification Program
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00 ) paid by the employee
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of subject(s) to which assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations in the school environment
Experience:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies:
- Implements the SAISD curriculum guides.
- Analyzes formative data in order to provide targeted instruction based on students’ individual needs.
- Presents students with instructional strategies that engage, motivate and support students in their mastery of the standards.
- Develops and implements lesson plans that address the learning styles of all students.
- Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in learning styles.
- Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by The Texas Education Agency, Board Policies, and Administrative Regulations.
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conducts assessment of each student’s learning and uses results to plan appropriate and targeted instructional activities especially in the core content areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
- Works cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in the Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Works with campus and district staff to address the needs of English language learners.
- Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Works as part of a campus problem-solving, solution-finding team that develops appropriate learning experiences and support for all students.
- Communicates in a timely and professional way with parents/guardians about individual student’s progress.
Student Growth and Development:
- Helps students analyze and improve study methods and habits; fosters students goal setting practices.
- Conducts ongoing assessments of students’ achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Acts as a positive role model for students and supports the mission of the San Antonio Independent School District.
Classroom Management and Organization:
- Creates an inviting, welcoming classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Establishes procedures and routines that are consistent and clear to students.
- Manages student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participates in staff development activities to improve job related skills.
- Keeps informed of and complies with state, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other required documents.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Complies with the Code of Ethics for Educators.

Working Conditions:
Mental Demands
- Above average degree of concentration, communication (verbal and written), interpretation, understanding verbal instructions, analyzing, differentiating, reading, coordinating, compiling, computing, instructing, emotional control, memorizing, organizational skills, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, write. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms;
- stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally sit, climb, or balance, taste or smell; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Factors:
- Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
